About Lucky Daye

David Debrandon Brown, known professionally as Lucky Daye, is a highly acclaimed American R&B singer-songwriter born on September 25, 1985, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up in a devout religious environment that strictly forbade secular music, Daye’s early exposure was limited to church hymns. However, after leaving the church as a teenager, he discovered the world of R&B, soul, and funk, drawing inspiration from legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Musiq Soulchild.

At 19, Daye auditioned for the fourth season of American Idol, making it to the Top 20 before being eliminated. Undeterred, he moved to Atlanta to pursue a music career, initially working as a background vocalist and a songwriter. He contributed to songs for renowned artists including Keith Sweat, Ne-Yo, Boyz II Men, and Mary J. Blige, honing his craft in the industry.

In 2018, Daye signed with Keep Cool Records and RCA Records, releasing his debut single “Roll Some Mo.” This marked the beginning of his rise to fame, with the release of his EPs I and II in 2018 and 2019. His debut album Painted, released in May 2019, garnered critical acclaim and earned him four Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Album.

Lucky Daye’s subsequent releases, including the EP Table for Two in 2021 and his 2022 album Candydrip, solidified his place as a prominent figure in modern R&B. His latest album, Algorithm, released in June 2024, was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. Daye is celebrated for his unique fusion of contemporary R&B and classic soul, creating a sound that resonates with a diverse audience.
