Los Pleneros de la Cresta

Los Pleneros de la Cresta is a dynamic Puerto Rican ensemble dedicated to keeping the vibrant traditions of plena alive. Founded in 2013 at the University of Puerto Rico’s Río Piedras Campus, the group began as a student-driven initiative by siblings Joseph, Joshuan, and Jeyluix Ocasio Rivera, along with their cousin Josué Román Figueroa. Their name, “La Cresta,” pays homage to the university’s iconic rooster symbol, reflecting their pride in Puerto Rican culture.

Since their formation, the group has gained widespread recognition for their energetic performances, blending tradition with modern influences. Their discography includes three studio albums: Mucho Gusto, Soy de la Isla (2015), Puerto Rico Vive (2021), and Sentimiento y Cultura (2024). Each album reflects their passion for preserving plena while pushing its boundaries to reach new audiences.

A major breakthrough came in 2025 when they collaborated with global superstar Bad Bunny on his album Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Their appearances on the tracks CAFé CON RON and BAILE INoLVIDABLE introduced plena to a broader audience, skyrocketing their streaming numbers and reinforcing their place in Puerto Rico’s evolving musical landscape.

Beyond music, Los Pleneros de la Cresta are committed to cultural preservation and social activism. They are currently working on establishing the Centro Cultural Yerba Bruja, a project focused on education, cultural programming, and agroecology to empower local communities.

Through their music and activism, Los Pleneros de la Cresta are not just performers but cultural ambassadors, ensuring that plena continues to thrive for future generations.
