About Lola Young

Lola Young, born on January 4, 2001, in Croydon, London, is a rising British singer-songwriter celebrated for her soulful voice and raw, introspective songwriting. Raised in Beckenham, South East London, Young grew up in a musically rich environment with a Jamaican-Chinese bassist father and a mother, the younger sister of famed children’s author Julia Donaldson. This eclectic background sparked her early passion for music.

From the age of six, Young was deeply involved in music, taking piano, guitar, and singing lessons. By eleven, she was already writing her own songs. At fifteen, she won a national open mic contest with her performance of “Never Enough,” which led to a mentorship that helped refine her talents. A graduate of The BRIT School, a renowned institution for budding artists, Lola began her professional career with the release of her debut EP, Intro, in 2019. This was followed by Renaissance in 2020 and After Midnight in 2021, with her cover of “Together in Electric Dreams” for the John Lewis Christmas ad gaining widespread attention.

Her debut album, My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely, released in 2023, delves into themes of mental health and personal reflection, with Young candidly sharing her experiences with schizoaffective disorder. In 2024, her single “Messy” skyrocketed to the top of global charts, cementing her place in the music world. Known for her dynamic performances, Lola Young continues to captivate audiences worldwide, touring extensively across the UK, Europe, and North America.
