Lefty Sm

Lefty SM, born Juan Carlos Sauceda Vásquez on April 22, 1992, in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, was a groundbreaking voice in Mexican hip-hop. Growing up in a humble household with a welder father, Lefty was deeply influenced by both traditional Mexican music and the sounds of American rap. Artists like 50 Cent, Eminem, and Gorillaz helped shape his musical taste and creative direction.

He started his career in 2011, sharing his music independently on YouTube. His breakout moment came with the release of his debut album Avión de Papel in 2019, which showcased his signature fusion of rap with regional Mexican influences. Known for his raw lyrics and authenticity, Lefty quickly rose in the ranks of Latin hip-hop, collaborating with major names like Santa Fe Klan, Dharius, C-Kan, and MC Davo.

His track “Por Mi México” became a cultural anthem, resonating with Mexicans at home and abroad for its message of pride and resilience. Beyond music, Lefty was a savvy entrepreneur, founding 50°Grados Barber Shop, a chain of barbershops that reflected his community roots and passion for business.

Tragically, Lefty SM’s life was cut short on September 2, 2023, when he was fatally shot during a home invasion in Zapopan, Jalisco. He was just 31 years old. Lefty is survived by his wife, María Isabel, and their two daughters. Though gone too soon, his voice, message, and influence live on in the music he left behind.
