Le Rat Luciano, born Christophe Laurent Carmona on April 9, 1976, in Marseille, France, is a key figure in French hip-hop, known for his unique style that blends his Spanish and Martiniquais heritage with the sounds of the urban Marseille scene. Growing up in the Panier district, his music reflects the city’s rich cultural backdrop, influencing both his lyricism and beats.

In 1994, Le Rat co-founded the iconic hip-hop group Fonky Family, whose debut album Si Dieu veut… (1997) became a massive success, achieving double-platinum status. The album’s raw and authentic portrayal of Marseille’s street culture catapulted the group into the spotlight, solidifying their place in the French music scene.

Le Rat Luciano ventured into a solo career in 2000 with his debut album Mode De Vie… Béton Style. The album was met with positive reviews, earning a gold certification and cementing his reputation as a solo artist. The album’s tracks became staples of French hip-hop, with many still regarded as classics today.
