About Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson, born on May 19, 1992, in Baskin, Louisiana, is a Grammy-winning country music singer and songwriter known for her distinctive voice and blend of classic country influences with modern sounds. Raised in a small town of just 250 people, Wilson was immersed in country music from a young age, influenced by the likes of Buck Owens and Glen Campbell. Her father, Brian, a farmer, and her mother, Michelle, a schoolteacher, fostered her early love for music. At the age of nine, Wilson attended a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, a pivotal moment that solidified her dream of becoming a country music performer. Encouraged by her father, who taught her a few chords, she began writing songs during her preteen years.

In her teenage years, Wilson took on an unusual job impersonating Hannah Montana at birthday parties and local events across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. This role, which she booked herself, not only allowed her to perform but also gave her valuable experience in engaging with audiences. After finishing high school, Wilson moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in August 2011 to pursue her country music career. The early years in Nashville were challenging; she lived in a camper trailer outside a recording studio where the owner paid for her water and electricity. This period tested her resilience, but Wilson remained determined, performing at small shows and honing her songwriting skills.

In 2014, Wilson released her debut self-titled album on the Cupit label, followed by her second album, Tougher, in 2016 on Lone Chief Records. The latter project garnered some attention, even reaching the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. In 2018, Wilson independently released a self-titled EP, which led to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV and a management deal. This marked a turning point in her career, setting the stage for her subsequent breakthrough.

Wilson’s big break came in 2018 when she signed with BBR Music Group and released her third EP, Redneck Hollywood, in 2019. The EP included her debut major-label single, “Dirty Looks,” which showcased her unique blend of traditional country with modern elements. Her real breakthrough, however, came with the single “Things a Man Oughta Know,” released in 2020. The song resonated deeply with audiences, climbing to number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and number three on Hot Country Songs. It was featured on her 2021 album Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’, which received critical acclaim for its authentic and heartfelt approach.

In 2021, Wilson’s career continued to soar as she joined Jason Aldean on his “Back in the Saddle Tour” and collaborated with Cole Swindell on the chart-topping single “Never Say Never.” Her 2022 album Bell Bottom Country further solidified her place in the industry, and she became a recurring presence on the television show Yellowstone, where several of her songs were featured.

Wilson’s success reached new heights in 2023 when she received a leading nine nominations at the Country Music Association Awards, winning five, including the prestigious Entertainer of the Year. She became the first woman to win this title since Taylor Swift in 2009. In 2024, Wilson announced her fifth album, Whirlwind, set for release in August, with the lead single “Hang Tight Honey” already making waves.

Lainey Wilson’s music, characterized by its blend of classic and contemporary country with a touch of Southern rock, continues to resonate with fans. Her journey from a small-town girl with big dreams to a leading figure in country music is a testament to her talent, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to her craft.
