Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole is a celebrated American singer, songwriter, and TV personality known for her soulful voice and deeply emotional R&B music. Born on October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California, Keyshia’s early life wasn’t easy. Her mother struggled with addiction, and Keyshia spent some time in foster care before being adopted at age two by family friends, Leon and Yvonne Cole, who gave her a loving and stable home.

Her passion for music began early. At just 12 years old, she met MC Hammer, who inspired her, and she later crossed paths with the legendary rapper Tupac Shakur. By 18, Keyshia moved to Los Angeles and soon signed with A&M Records. In 2005, she dropped her debut album, The Way It Is, which quickly went platinum and featured hits like “I Should Have Cheated” and “Love.” These songs connected deeply with listeners and put her firmly on the R&B map.

Keyshia followed up with successful albums like Just Like You (2007), which reached number two on the Billboard 200, and A Different Me (2008), her highest-selling album in its first week. Throughout her career, she has earned several Grammy nominations, recognized for both her solo work and collaborations.

Beyond music, Keyshia shared her life with fans through her reality show Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, which aired for three seasons, and later hosted One on One with Keyshia Cole on Fox Soul.

As of 2025, Keyshia continues to shape R&B with her upcoming eighth studio album, This Is My Story, and is gearing up for The Way It Is 20th Anniversary Tour, celebrating two decades of her powerful music and storytelling.
