About Kendo Kaponi
José Fernando Morales Rivera, better known as Kendo Kaponi, is a Puerto Rican rapper, songwriter, and producer who has left a lasting mark on the reggaeton and Latin urban music scene. Born on August 19, 1984, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, his early life was filled with hardships. After losing his parents to drug addiction, he was raised by his grandmother until her passing when he was just nine years old. From there, he spent his childhood in foster homes, shaping his resilience and determination.
Kaponi’s musical journey began in the mid-2000s, writing songs for some of reggaeton’s biggest names, including Héctor el Father, Don Omar, and Wisin & Yandel. His songwriting skills earned him recognition, leading to collaborations with Don Omar’s label, El Orfanato, where he contributed to projects like Don Omar Presents: Meet the Orphans.
In 2016, he released Kendo Edition, a mixtape produced alongside Musicólogo & Menes, followed by his solo project El Alfa & El Omega in 2018 under the Flow La Movie label. Known for his raw lyrics and aggressive flow, Kaponi has been involved in notable feuds with artists like Baby Rasta, Cosculluela, and Arcángel.
His career hit a roadblock in 2018 when he was arrested in Puerto Rico for an armed burglary charge in Florida, leading to a two-year prison sentence. After his release in 2020, he made a strong comeback, even appearing at Farruko’s Miami concert.
Now signed with Rimas Entertainment, Kendo Kaponi continues to write and produce music for artists like Anuel AA. His unwavering dedication to the genre and ability to turn personal struggles into powerful music have solidified his place in the Latin urban scene.
