About Karan Aujla

Jaskaran Singh Aujla, popularly known as Karan Aujla, is an Indian singer, rapper, and songwriter who has made a significant impact on the Punjabi music scene. He was born on January 18, 1997, in the village of Ghurala in Ludhiana, Punjab, Aujla has risen to prominence through his unique blend of Punjabi folk and modern rap. His work has earned him a dedicated following both in India and among the global Punjabi diaspora.

Aujla’s journey into music began at a young age. He faced a tragic loss early in life when both of his parents, Balwinder Singh Aujla and Rajinder Kaur, passed away when he was just nine years old. Raised by his sisters and uncle, Aujla found solace in music. His passion for writing lyrics was ignited during his teenage years, and while still in the 9th grade, he met singer Jassi Gill at a wedding. This meeting was pivotal as it led to Gill performing one of Aujla’s early songs, “Range,” which brought Aujla initial recognition.

Seeking broader horizons, Aujla emigrated to Canada, where he completed his high school education in Burnaby, British Columbia. While in Canada, he juggled various part-time jobs, including working as a longshoreman in Surrey, British Columbia. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to his music career. In 2014, Aujla released his debut song “Cell Phone” with Mac Benipal, but it failed to make a significant impact. However, this setback did not deter him.

Aujla’s breakthrough came in 2016 with the release of “Property of Punjab,” his debut song as a lead artist. This track marked the beginning of his rise in the Punjabi music industry. Collaborating with artists like Deep Jandu and Elly Mangat, he began to establish his presence. He wrote lyrics for various well-known artists, including Gagan Kokri, Jazzy B, Bohemia, and Sukh-E. His song “Blessings of Bapu,” performed by Gagan Kokri, was particularly well-received.

2018 was a turning point in Aujla’s career. His song “Don’t Worry,” featuring Gurlez Akhtar, became a massive hit, propelling him into the limelight. The track’s success on the UK Asian music chart and its YouTube viewership, which soared past a hundred million, solidified his status as a rising star. Following this, Aujla released several other successful tracks, including “Rim vs Jhanjhar,” “Na Na Na,” and “No Need.” His songs frequently topped charts and garnered millions of views, establishing him as a household name in Punjabi music.

In 2021, Aujla released his highly anticipated debut album Bacthafucup (BTFU), produced by Tru Skool. The album received widespread acclaim and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart and number 34 on the New Zealand albums chart. This achievement earned him the title of the Largest Digital Artist of 2021 on Spotify and a place among the most popular artists in the Punjabi music industry.

Karan Aujla’s music is characterized by its blend of traditional Punjabi elements with contemporary rap and pop influences. His lyrical prowess and ability to connect with audiences have made him one of the most influential artists in Punjabi music.
