John Chamling Rai, a talented and rising star in the Nepali music scene, has captivated audiences with his heartfelt songs and soulful voice. Born on November 5, 1998, in Dharan, Nepal, John discovered his passion for music at the tender age of four when he received his first guitar.
Initially gaining recognition through song covers of popular artists and bands such as Tribal Rain, The Beatles, Sajjan Raj Vaidya, JPT Rockerz, Michael Bublé, Neetesh Jung Kunwar, and Albatross, John transitioned to original music, debuting with his single “Prasna” in 2020. His collaboration with Nyshang on “Firework” and subsequent releases, including “Parkhi Rahexu,” “Ko Xa Ra,” and “Vagyamani Moh,” solidified his reputation as a gifted singer-songwriter.
In 2022, his song “Sadhana” went viral on TikTok, further boosting his popularity, followed by the release of “Mutu Dekhin” later that year. In 2023, he released the widely acclaimed “Hawa Jastai,” which garnered 18 million views, and “Samaya Ley.” John currently performs with his band, “John and The Local,” where he serves as the vocalist and keyboard player, alongside Shreehang Rai on guitar, Manuhang Rai on bass, Jasperr Rai on drums, and Sudarshan Thapa on percussion. His brother, Puran Rai, is also a renowned singer-songwriter in Nepal.
John completed his schooling at Deport Higher Secondary School in Dharan and pursued a corporate finance major at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. His dedication to music and his ever-growing fan base continue to propel him to new heights in the music industry.
