JJ (AUT)

Johannes Pietsch, better known by his stage name JJ, is an Austrian countertenor singer-songwriter born on April 29, 2001, in Vienna. Raised in Dubai, JJ was exposed to a rich blend of cultures, with an Austrian father working in IT and a Filipino mother who is a talented chef. The family’s return to Austria in 2016 marked a transformative moment for JJ, sparking his passion for music and setting him on a path to become a prominent figure in the music industry.

JJ’s musical style uniquely blends pop with opera, distinguished by his expressive vocal delivery and his ability to sing in the soprano-range countertenor voice. He is currently a student at the Music and Arts University of Vienna, where he hones his skills in both classical and contemporary music. His dedication to his craft is further reflected in his training at the prestigious Vienna State Opera’s opera school.

In 2020, JJ gained national recognition when he participated in the UK version of The Voice, impressing coach will.i.am and advancing to the Knockouts. The following year, he competed in Austria’s Starmania competition, where he made it to the finals, solidifying his place in the music scene.

In 2025, JJ was selected to represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel with his original song “Wasted Love,” co-written with Teodora Špirić and Thomas Thurner. The track, released on March 6, 2025, showcases his distinctive fusion of pop and opera, highlighting his versatility as an artist. Fluent in German, English, French, and Tagalog, JJ’s diverse background makes him a rising star on the international stage.
