JD BECK

JD Beck, born James Dennis Beck on May 3, 2003, in Dallas, Texas, is an exceptionally talented drummer and producer known for his fresh fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music. Starting his musical journey on classical piano at just five years old, he quickly found his true passion behind the drums by age eight. By eleven, Beck was already performing live, guided by seasoned mentors like Cleon Edwards from Erykah Badu’s band, Robert “Sput” Searight of Snarky Puppy, and soul artist Jon Bap, all of whom helped shape his unique sound and impressive skills.

In 2018, Beck crossed paths with French keyboardist DOMi (Domitille Degalle) at the NAMM Show, sparking the creation of the dynamic duo DOMi & JD Beck. Their debut album, Not Tight, released in 2022 through Anderson .Paak’s Apeshit label alongside Blue Note Records, was met with widespread acclaim. The album not only showcased their virtuosic musicianship and inventive style but also earned them Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album and Best New Artist.

Beyond the duo, JD Beck has collaborated with an impressive lineup of artists including Thundercat, Anderson .Paak, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, Mac DeMarco, and Busta Rhymes. His performances at renowned venues like the Newport Jazz Festival and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert have cemented his reputation as a groundbreaking force in modern jazz. With his inventive drumming and genre-defying approach, JD Beck continues to push musical boundaries and inspire a new generation of musicians worldwide.
