Hikaru Utada

Hikaru Utada is a Japanese-American singer, songwriter, and producer whose music has shaped the sound of J-pop and resonated with global audiences for over two decades. Born on January 19, 1983, in New York City to a musical family—her father a producer and her mother a famous enka singer—Utada was immersed in music from a young age, naturally developing her own voice and style.

Her first release, an English-language album titled Precious under the name Cubic U (1998), quietly marked the beginning of what would become a monumental career. That same year, she made her Japanese debut with the single “Automatic / Time Will Tell,” which became an instant sensation and launched her into stardom at just 15.
