Diamanté Anthony Blackmon, known professionally as Gordo, is a Nicaraguan-American DJ, record producer, and former rapper whose journey in the music industry is marked by a dynamic evolution in sound and identity. Born on January 3, 1991, in Washington, D.C., to Nicaraguan parents, Gordo spent part of his childhood in Guatemala before returning to the United States at the age of 10. This bicultural upbringing profoundly shaped his musical influences, blending Latin rhythms with the vibrant energy of electronic dance music (EDM).

Gordo’s entry into the world of music began in his teenage years. At 16, he started performing as a DJ in small clubs around Frederick, Maryland, where he attended Walkersville High School. These early performances laid the foundation for his future career, showcasing his talent and passion for music. In 2012, he adopted the stage name Carnage and quickly made a name for himself in the EDM scene. His bass-heavy, festival-ready tracks resonated with audiences, leading to collaborations with prominent artists like Borgore, KSHMR, and Timmy Trumpet. His 2014 single “Incredible” with Borgore and the 2015 hit “Toca” with Timmy Trumpet and KSHMR were major successes, solidifying his place in the global electronic music scene.

As Carnage, Gordo released his debut studio album, Papi Gordo, in 2015. The album was a significant milestone, showcasing his ability to merge EDM with hip-hop. It featured collaborations with artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, Rick Ross, and Migos, and its lead single, “I Like Tuh” with ILoveMakonnen, became a breakout hit, earning gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album topped the Dance/Electronic Albums chart and established Gordo as a leading figure in the genre.

Despite his success as Carnage, Gordo’s artistic journey continued to evolve. In 2022, he made the bold decision to retire the Carnage moniker and rebrand himself as Gordo. This name change signified a shift in his musical focus, moving from the hard-hitting trap and bass sound to a more refined exploration of house and techno. The transition was marked by the release of his first single under the Gordo name, “KTM,” in 2021, which showcased his new direction. Gordo’s performances at events like the Art of the Wild festival in Las Vegas were met with critical acclaim, affirming his seamless adaptation to the house music genre.

Under the Gordo alias, Blackmon expanded his influence in the music industry by stepping into production roles for other artists. His work on Drake’s 2022 album Honestly, Nevermind, including the hit single “Sticky,” exemplified his versatility as a producer. Gordo’s production contributions continued with Drake’s 2023 album For All the Dogs, further cementing his reputation as a multifaceted artist capable of crossing genres with ease.

Beyond his musical achievements, Gordo is deeply committed to philanthropy.
