About Eric Clapton

Eric Patrick Clapton was born on March 30, 1945, in Ripley, Surrey, England. Raised by his grandparents, he discovered his passion for guitar during his teenage years. Inspired by blues greats like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, Clapton quickly developed a distinctive style that would shape the future of rock and blues music.

His early days saw him playing with notable bands such as The Yardbirds and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, where his incredible guitar skills started to get noticed. In 1966, he co-founded the groundbreaking rock trio Cream alongside bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker. Cream’s powerful sound and improvisational style made a huge impact, but after their breakup, Clapton continued to explore new musical territory.

He joined bands like Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos—the latter delivering the unforgettable classic “Layla.” Clapton’s solo career blossomed with timeless hits including “Tears in Heaven,” “Wonderful Tonight,” and “Cocaine,” demonstrating his versatility across blues, rock, and pop.

Eric Clapton is one of the few musicians honored by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times—as a solo artist and as a member of two legendary bands. He has won 18 Grammy Awards and was appointed a CBE for his contributions to music. Beyond his artistry, Clapton founded the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a rehab facility helping those struggling with addiction.

Despite facing personal struggles, Eric Clapton’s powerful legacy as a guitarist and humanitarian continues to inspire millions around the world.
