About Emilia
María Emilia Mernes Rueda, professionally known as Emilia, is a multifaceted Argentine singer, songwriter, model, and actress. Born on October 29, 1996, in Nogoyá, Entre Ríos, Emilia developed a passion for music at a young age. Her love for the craft began at the age of 12 when her grandfather gifted her a guitar, sparking her journey into the world of melodies and songwriting. Emilia’s early dedication to music grew as she nurtured her talents, learning to sing and dance while also perfecting her skills on the guitar. Her journey into the spotlight, however, began in a slightly different field—modeling. In 2012, she won a contest to become the face of the fashion brand 47 Street, marking her initial steps in the entertainment industry.
In 2016, Emilia’s career took a major turn when she was selected to replace Camila Rajchman as the lead vocalist for the popular Uruguayan cumbia pop band, Rombai. Her stint with the band brought her into the public eye as they performed on significant stages across Latin America, releasing several hit singles like “Cuando se Pone A Bailar” and “Que Rico Baila.” Despite the success, Emilia left the group in 2018 to focus on her solo career. This decision proved pivotal, as she soon signed with Sony Music Latin and WK Entertainment, home to major Latin music stars. Her debut solo single, “Recalienta,” was released in 2019, earning her a spot on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100.
Emilia quickly gained momentum as a solo artist, releasing a string of successful singles. In August 2019, she dropped “No Soy Yo,” a collaboration with Darell, which marked her first entry on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart. That same year, she collaborated with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Sebastián Yatra, and Camilo on the international track “Boomshakalaka,” further boosting her popularity. By 2020, Emilia’s star power had grown, with songs like “Policía” and collaborations with artists such as MYA and Álex Rose expanding her reach across Latin America.
Her debut studio album, Tú Crees en Mí?, released in 2022, was a significant milestone in her career, showcasing her versatility across pop and urban genres. The album’s singles, such as “Como Si No Importara” featuring Duki, and “Cuatro Veinte,” performed well on the charts, solidifying Emilia’s status as a rising star in Latin music. The success of the album led to platinum certification in Argentina and further propelled her career to new heights.
In 2023, Emilia reached new milestones with her chart-topping single “En la Intimidad,” alongside Big One and Callejero Fino, and her participation in the supergroup Los del Espacio, which gave her a number-one hit in Argentina. She also embraced a 2000s aesthetic with her second studio album MP3, which featured hits like “La Original,” a collaboration with Tini. The album’s nostalgic influence resonated with fans, cementing her as a dominant figure in the Latin music scene.
Emilia’s artistry, characterized by her pop-urban sound, has earned her multiple accolades, including Premios Gardel and an MTV MIAW Award. With millions of followers on social media and a rapidly growing fan base, she continues to be a trailblazing force in the Latin music world.
