Eluveitie

Eluveitie is a Swiss folk metal band founded in 2002 by Chrigel Glanzmann in Winterthur, Zürich. Initially a studio project, the band’s debut EP Vên (2003) captured widespread attention, which led to the formation of a full band. Describing their sound as “the new wave of folk metal,” Eluveitie blends traditional Celtic folk elements with modern melodic death metal, creating a unique and dynamic musical experience.

The band incorporates a variety of traditional instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, and violin, alongside their heavy metal roots. Their lyrics, often in reconstructed Gaulish, reflect a strong connection to Celtic history and mythology. Eluveitie gained significant recognition with their 2008 album Slania, which not only charted in Switzerland and Germany but also cemented their place as leading figures in the folk metal genre.

Throughout their career, the band has seen several lineup changes, with Chrigel Glanzmann remaining the constant member. Despite these shifts, Eluveitie has continued to evolve, with albums like Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion (2009), Helvetios (2012), Origins (2014), and Ategnatos (2019). Their latest album, Ànv, released in 2024, features new members and introduces a refreshed sound, showcasing their continued growth and innovation.

Eluveitie’s distinctive fusion of metal and Celtic traditions has earned them a devoted global fanbase, making them a dominant force in the folk metal scene and ensuring their lasting impact on the genre.
