About DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled, born Khaled Mohammed Khaled on November 26, 1975, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a prominent American DJ, record producer, record executive, and media personality. Khaled, the son of Palestinian immigrants, developed an early interest in music, largely influenced by his parents, who were musicians themselves and played Arabic music at home. His passion for rap and soul music blossomed in his youth, and his parents supported his ambition. One of Khaled’s first jobs was at the Merry-Go-Round record store, where he gained invaluable exposure to the music industry.

Khaled’s career began to take off in the 1990s when he started DJing in reggae sound clashes, blending dancehall and hip-hop. He became known for his dynamic performances and eventually landed his first radio gig on a pirate station. In 1998, he moved to Miami, where his career took a significant leap forward. He co-hosted The Luke Show on 99 Jamz with 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell and later launched his own weeknight radio show, The Takeover, which helped him gain widespread recognition.

Khaled’s rise to prominence came through his affiliation with Fat Joe’s hip-hop collective, Terror Squad, where he served as the group’s DJ and worked on live performances and production. His production work earned him respect in the hip-hop community, and in 2006, he released his debut studio album, Listennn… the Album. This project marked the beginning of Khaled’s career as a major player in the music industry. He followed it with We the Best in 2007, which included the hit single “I’m So Hood,” featuring a stellar lineup of T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, and Plies.

In the following years, Khaled released a string of successful albums, including We Global (2008) and Victory (2010), which featured the multi-platinum single “All I Do Is Win.” His fifth studio album, We the Best Forever (2011), marked his major label debut and produced his first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, “I’m on One,” featuring Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne. His career continued to soar, with albums such as Kiss the Ring (2012), Suffering from Success (2013), and I Changed a Lot (2015), although their reception was moderate.

Khaled’s popularity surged again in 2016 with the release of his ninth studio album, Major Key, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. His social media presence and viral memes during this period played a key role in his resurgence, making him a beloved public figure. His follow-up albums, Grateful (2017), Father of Asahd (2019), Khaled Khaled (2021), and God Did (2022), continued his commercial success, with hits like “I’m the One,” “Wild Thoughts,” and the Grammy Award-winning “Higher.”

Beyond music, DJ Khaled has ventured into writing, releasing the best-selling book The Keys and dabbling in acting with roles in Spies in Disguise (2019) and Bad Boys for Life (2020). His record label, We the Best Music Group, has fostered the careers of numerous artists, solidifying Khaled’s influence in the industry. Known for his larger-than-life personality, motivational catchphrases, and ability to bring together top artists, DJ Khaled continues to be a dominant force in music and popular culture.
