About David Archuleta

David Archuleta, born on December 28, 1990, in Miami, Florida, is an American singer-songwriter best known for his heartfelt vocals and emotional performances. He first captured the public’s attention as the runner-up on American Idol in 2008, winning over millions with his sincerity and soul-stirring voice. Music runs deep in his family—his mother, originally from Honduras, was a salsa singer and dancer, while his father had a background in jazz, exposing him to a rich mix of musical influences from a young age.

Archuleta’s journey in music started early. At just ten years old, he won the children’s division of the Utah Talent Competition, which led to his appearance on Star Search 2, where he was crowned Junior Vocal Champion at age twelve. His post-American Idol success was immediate—his debut single, Crush, soared to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his self-titled album sold over 750,000 copies in the U.S.

In 2012, at the height of his career, Archuleta took a two-year break from music to serve as a missionary in Chile for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he returned, he continued making music, releasing albums like Postcards in the Sky and Therapy Sessions, both deeply personal projects reflecting his growth as an artist and individual.

In 2021, Archuleta publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a moment that marked a turning point in his personal and professional life. This led him to step away from the LDS Church and become an advocate for self-acceptance and mental health.

Through all the ups and downs, Archuleta remains a voice of honesty and resilience, using his music and platform to inspire and uplift.
