Corbin

Corbin Smidzik, born on February 20, 1998, in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American artist, singer, songwriter, and producer renowned for his distinctive blend of alternative R&B and electronic music. Raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Corbin started his musical career at just 15 years old, debuting with the EP Forest in 2013. His early exposure to music shaped his emotionally charged and experimental style, setting him apart in the music scene.

Initially known by the moniker Spooky Black, Corbin gained widespread attention with his lo-fi R&B track “Without You,” released on his 2014 mixtape Black Silk. The track went viral on platforms like YouTube and WorldStarHipHop, catching the eyes of publications such as Noisey and Complex, who praised its raw, emotive quality. That same year, Corbin co-founded the hip-hop/R&B collective Thestand4rd with artists Allan Kingdom, Bobby Raps, and Psymun, releasing their debut self-titled album. Soon after, Corbin dropped the EP Leaving, marking the end of his Spooky Black alias and transitioning to simply Corbin, declaring, “Spooky Black is a dumb name.”

Corbin’s debut solo album, Mourn, released in 2017 under Shlohmo’s Wedidit label, explored themes of isolation, anger, and internal conflict. His music often reflects his personal struggles, including battles with addiction and the complexities of early viral fame. In 2019, he released Mourn 2016, followed by Ghost with Skin in 2021. With his fifth album, Crisis Kid, set for release in May 2025, Corbin continues to evolve, offering listeners a more intimate and introspective look at his journey and growth as an artist.
