Cody Jinks is an American singer-songwriter who has made a name for himself with a distinctive blend of outlaw country, Southern rock, and neotraditional country music. Born on August 18, 1980, in Haltom City, Texas, Jinks’ musical journey began in his teenage years when he picked up the guitar, learning from his father. However, before stepping into the country music scene, he gained attention as the frontman of the thrash metal band Unchecked Aggression, which was active from 1998 to 2003. Drawing inspiration from bands like Metallica and Pantera, the group released their album The Massacre Begins in 2002 but disbanded shortly after their trip to Los Angeles.

After stepping away from music for a while, Jinks transitioned to country music around 2005, where his unique sound began to take shape, influenced by artists like Merle Haggard. His 2015 album Adobe Sessions put him on the map, reaching Billboard’s regional Heatseekers charts and leading to a tour with Sturgill Simpson. His 2016 album I’m Not the Devil marked a breakthrough, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and earning praise as one of the best country albums of the year from Rolling Stone.

Jinks’ career continued to rise with albums like Lifers (2018), After the Fire (2019), and The Wanting (2019), both of which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. In 2020, he achieved remarkable milestones, including two Certified Gold Singles for “Loud and Heavy” and “Hippies and Cowboys,” and became the first independent country artist to earn platinum status in the modern era.

Remaining fiercely independent, Jinks operates under his own label, Late August Records. His 2024 album Change the Game showcases his growth, while his live performances, including appearances at events like RodeoHouston, continue to capture the hearts of fans nationwide. Jinks’ ability to balance his roots in heavy metal with his passion for country music has made him a standout figure in the modern country scene, all while staying true to his unique artistic vision.
