Christopher Daniel Soriano Jr., better known as CJ, is an American rapper and songwriter from Staten Island, New York. Born on January 4, 1997, and of Puerto Rican descent, CJ developed a passion for music early on. He started rapping at just nine years old and by his teenage years, he was recording and uploading songs to platforms like YouTube and SoundCloud.

His big break came in July 2020 with the release of “Whoopty,” a hard-hitting drill anthem that quickly took over the charts. The track, which samples Arijit Singh’s “Sanam Re,” became a viral sensation, reaching No. 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. The success of “Whoopty” earned CJ a record deal with Warner Records and his uncle James Cruz’s label, Cruz Control Entertainment.

Following the momentum, CJ released “Bop” in early 2021 and soon after, dropped his debut EP, Loyalty Over Royalty, with French Montana as the executive producer. The project showcased his ability to blend hip-hop, trap, and drill influences, drawing inspiration from legends like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, and Pop Smoke.

Despite his rapid rise, CJ faced criticism, with some questioning whether he was a “one-hit wonder” and speculating about industry connections playing a role in his success. However, his impact on the New York drill scene remains undeniable.

Outside of music, CJ took a step back from the industry to focus on fatherhood, embracing his role as a provider and protector for his family. As of 2025, he continues to navigate his career, balancing personal life with his passion for music.
