CIV was an influential American punk rock band that emerged from New York City in 1994. Named after their lead vocalist, Anthony “CIV” Civarelli, the band quickly gained a reputation for their energetic sound and raw style. CIV was formed by former members of the hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits, including Civarelli, bassist Arthur Smilios, and drummer Sammy Siegler, who also had notable stints in other hardcore acts like Youth of Today and Judge. Guitarist Charlie Garriga and later addition Cache Tolman rounded out the band.

Their debut album, Set Your Goals (1995), produced by Don Fury and Walter Schreifels, became an instant hit in the punk scene for its fast-paced, high-energy sound. Their follow-up, Thirteen Day Getaway (1998), produced by Michael Barbiero, John Goodmanson, and Steve Thompson, further solidified their presence in the punk rock world, keeping true to their style while also experimenting with new elements. In addition to these albums, their hit single “Can’t Wait One Minute More” garnered extra fame when it was featured on the animated TV show Beavis and Butt-Head and in a Nissan commercial.

After disbanding in 2000, CIV reunited for several special performances, including appearances at New York’s Black N Blue Bowl and Belgium’s Groezrock Festival. They even played a one-off show in the Netherlands in 2024.

CIV’s legacy endures, as their music continues to inspire both fans and fellow musicians. Their songs have been featured in various media, including the What’s New, Scooby-Doo? TV series and the video game Road Rash 3D.
