About Briston Maroney

Briston Maroney, born on January 24, 1998, in Knoxville, Tennessee, is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist recognized for blending folk influences with a 1990s indie-rock style. His musical journey began in his teenage years, marked by his appearance on the 13th season of American Idol at 15. Although he didn’t make it past the Hollywood rounds, his audition, where he performed The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” helped establish his presence in the music world.

In high school, Maroney formed the bluegrass band Subtle Clutch, performing at local venues such as Dollywood. He later studied music at Lipscomb University in Nashville, where his passion for songwriting grew stronger. In 2018, Maroney signed with Canvasback Music and Atlantic Records, marking the beginning of his professional music career. His debut EP, Carnival (2018), featured hits like “Under My Skin” and “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate,” the latter of which was certified Gold by the RIAA in 2021.

His follow-up EP, Indiana (2019), included the popular track “Caroline” and solidified his reputation as an emerging talent. Drawing comparisons to iconic artists like John Prine, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, Maroney’s music reflects his diverse influences. In April 2021, he released his debut studio album Sunflower, which showcased his growth as an artist. Maroney continues to tour and deliver captivating live performances, further cementing his place in the indie music scene.
