Devante McCreary, born August 31, 1998, and professionally known as BossMan Dlow, is an emerging force in the American rap scene. His journey into music began under challenging circumstances. While serving time in county jail in 2019, he discovered his passion for rap, which soon became a driving force in his life. He is inspired by his brother Tory, who encouraged him to pursue music. Dlow began to craft his unique sound and style, rooted deeply in the Florida rap tradition.
BossMan Dlow’s musical career took off with the release of his debut mixtape, Too Slippery, in January 2023. The mixtape quickly gained traction on TikTok, a platform known for propelling new artists into the limelight. This initial success led to a record deal with Alamo Records in the summer of 2023. Under this label, Too Slippery was re-released as 2 Slippery in December 2023, further solidifying Dlow’s presence in the rap scene.
The breakthrough moment for BossMan Dlow came in January 2024 with the release of his single “Get in with Me.” Originally performed as a freestyle on the Jacksonville-based series Kreepin Through the Streetz, the track became a viral sensation on Instagram and TikTok. The song’s rise was notably accelerated by its association with a public feud involving Rick Ross’s ex-partner Tia Kemp and her daughter Toie Roberts, who used the track in a video that further fueled its popularity. “Get in with Me” debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, peaking at number 49 and marking Dlow’s first appearance on the Hot 100.
Following this success, BossMan Dlow released “Mr Pot Scraper” in February 2024, another track that gained considerable attention. His third mixtape, Mr Beat the Road, came out on March 15, 2024. This mixtape featured several singles, including “Get in with Me,” “Mr Pot Scraper,” and “Piss Me Off,” showcasing Dlow’s evolving artistry and solidifying his status in the industry. Additionally, a remix of his song “Finesse” from the 2 Slippery mixtape, featuring rapper GloRilla, was released later that month, adding another dimension to his growing discography.
BossMan Dlow’s music is characterized by his motivational lyrics and distinctive delivery, blending influences from Wiz Khalifa, Babyface Ray, Yo Gotti, Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Plies, and Future. His style, described by critics as “dope-dealing motivation rap” with “Michigan-meets-the-South party beats,” reflects his roots and experiences. His unconventional, choppy delivery and Florida twang contribute to his unique sound, while his booming baritone voice and impeccable swagger have been highlighted by critics such as Joey Ech of XXL.
