Awhimai Fraser is a versatile New Zealand-born artist, blending her talents as a singer, songwriter, actress, voice actress, and film producer. Rooted in her Māori heritage, Fraser hails from the Waikato region and is affiliated with the iwi (tribes) of Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāi Tāmanuhuri, and Ngāti Kahungunu.
Her creative journey began early when she competed in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles at 19. Over the years, Fraser has developed a diverse skill set, excelling in music composition, singing (both mezzo-soprano and soprano), piano, dancing, presenting, and even sports like netball and swimming.
Fraser’s acting career took off with her role as Chantelle in the popular New Zealand TV series Ahikaroa, where she appeared in 95 episodes from 2018 to 2021. She also showcased her vocal range by voicing Elsa in the Māori-language adaptation of Frozen Reo Māori in 2022. A major milestone in her career came with her involvement in Moana 2, where she voices the new villain, Matangi, slated for release in 2024. This role highlights her growing influence in mainstream cinema.
Alongside her acting and voice work, Fraser is active in music, having released the music video for her track “WAIORA.” On social media, she stays connected with fans and shares her ongoing projects.
