Rakim Athelaston Mayers, better known as A$AP Rocky, was born on October 3, 1988, in Harlem, New York City. As a multifaceted artist, he is recognized for his work as a rapper, songwriter, record producer, and influential fashion icon. A$AP Rocky is also a key member of the hip-hop collective A$AP Mob, a group that helped shape his iconic stage name.

Rocky’s passion for rap began at the age of nine, drawing inspiration from legends like Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang Clan. His breakthrough came in 2011 with the release of his mixtape Live. Love. A$AP, which helped him secure a record deal with Polo Grounds Music and RCA Records. His debut studio album, Long. Live. A$AP (2013), topped the Billboard 200 and went on to achieve double platinum status. Rocky continued to build on his success with the release of At. Long. Last. A$AP (2015) and Testing (2018), both of which cemented his place in hip-hop. His highly anticipated fourth album, Don’t Be Dumb, is expected to drop in 2025.

Aside from his music career, A$AP Rocky has made a name for himself in the fashion world, collaborating with high-end brands like Dior and Louis Vuitton. In 2019, he faced legal challenges following an assault incident in Sweden, but he was ultimately released. As of March 2025, he was acquitted of gun assault charges in Los Angeles, and continues to be a dominant figure in both the music and fashion industries.
