Arcángel

Arcángel, born Austin Agustín Santos on December 23, 1985, in New York City, is a trailblazer in the Latin urban music world, known for his groundbreaking contributions to reggaeton and Latin trap. When he was just three months old, he moved to Puerto Rico, where his musical roots grew deep. His mother, Carmen Rosa, was a member of the merengue group Las Chicas del Can, which exposed Arcángel to diverse musical influences from a young age. This eclectic mix of sounds, including rock artists like Draco Rosa, would later shape his distinctive style.

In the early 2000s, Arcángel teamed up with De la Ghetto, forming a duo that quickly gained attention in the reggaeton underground scene. Their hit track “Ven Pégate” and collaborations on albums like Sangre Nueva and Mas Flow: Los Benjamins solidified their place in Latin music. However, following disagreements with their label, Baby Records, the duo parted ways in 2007, prompting Arcángel to pursue a solo career and launch his own label.

As a solo artist, Arcángel enjoyed significant success with tracks like “Pa’ Que la Pases Bien,” “Por Amar a Ciegas,” and “Hace Mucho Tiempo.” His 2013 album Sentimiento, Elegancia & Maldad hit number one on the US Top Latin Albums chart, marking a pivotal moment in his career. With later albums like Ares (2018) and Historias de un Capricornio (2019), Arcángel continued to evolve, maintaining his influence as a key figure in Latin trap and reggaeton. His innovative approach to blending traditional reggaeton with trap elements has earned him both critical acclaim and a lasting impact on the genre.
