The title “Lana” comes from a childhood nickname that SZA created for herself. Initially, she had planned to get a tattoo of her full name, “Solana,” but the high cost of tattooing each letter led her to choose only the last four letters, “Lana,” which eventually inspired the album’s name.

Although fans initially expected a midnight release, the album became available at 12 PM PT due to some last-minute mixing adjustments. Upon release, “Lana” was met with widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its raw, introspective lyrics and deep musical composition. Rolling Stone praised SZA’s openness and emotional depth, cementing her position as a bold and innovative artist.
