Growing up between France and Cameroon, music ran in his blood—his father, M’Backé Ngoup’Emanty, was a well-known Senegalese-Cameroonian musician who exposed Yamê early on to a rich mix of musical cultures.
Before music became his career, Yamê pursued academics, earning a degree in history and a master’s in information management. But during the pandemic, he took a leap of faith—leaving his job in data processing to dive fully into music. Immersing himself in Paris’s vibrant jam session scene, he honed his skills across multiple instruments, building a musical identity rooted in authenticity and versatility.
In 2020, Yamê released his first Bantu Mixtape volumes, showing off his eclectic style, followed by the EP Agent 237 in 2021. His breakthrough came with his 2023 debut album Elowi, a deeply personal project exploring identity, heritage, and perseverance. The standout single “Bécane” became a viral hit after a COLORS Show performance, charting across France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
In 2024, Yamê’s impact was formally recognized when he was named Best Male Newcomer at the Victoires de la Musique. With his emotional storytelling and fearless genre-blending, Yamê continues to carve out a space in today’s global music landscape, connecting with listeners through raw honesty and vibrant sound.
