About Wilderado
Wilderado is an indie folk-rock band that hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma, known for their heartfelt lyrics, expansive sound, and strong harmonies. Formed in 2015, the group currently consists of Max Rainer (lead vocals, guitar), Tyler Wimpee (guitar, vocals), and Justin Kila (drums). They started out under Iamsound Records but are now signed with Bright Antenna Records, continuing to build a dedicated following through their dynamic performances and emotionally resonant music.
The band’s journey began when Rainer and Wimpee met through mutual friends during college. What started as casual songwriting sessions turned into something more serious after most of their peers had moved on, leaving the duo with time and creative space. Their first EP, Misty Shrub, arrived in 2016, quickly followed by Latigo that same year — the latter gaining traction with over 18 million Spotify streams. Riding that wave of momentum, Wilderado hit the road, touring alongside acts like Band of Horses, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Lindsey Buckingham, and Judah & The Lion.
In 2018, Wilderado dropped their third EP, Favors, which further cemented their place in the indie scene. A year later, they released the single “Surefire,” inspired by Tabitha King’s poem A Gradual Canticle for Augustine. The track earned critical attention, even being featured on Sirius XM’s “5 Songs You Need to Hear Right Now,” thanks to its moving lyrics and soaring melody.
Their self-titled debut album arrived in October 2021, featuring standout songs like “Head Right” and “Surefire.” Wilderado made their national television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2022 and later performed on CBS Saturday Morning. In 2024, they released their second full-length album, Talker, and contributed the song “Wall of Death” to the Twisters movie soundtrack — a collaboration that included Ken Pomeroy and James McAlister. With each release, Wilderado continues to evolve, blending intimacy and grandeur into a sound uniquely their own.
