About Tyler Childers
Tyler Childers, born on June 21, 1991, in Lawrence County, Kentucky, is an American singer-songwriter celebrated for his rich blend of country, bluegrass, folk, and honky-tonk music. Growing up in the heart of Appalachia, Childers is deeply connected to his roots, often weaving stories of coal mining, rural life, and personal struggles into his evocative lyrics.
Childers’ music career began with his debut album, Bottles and Bibles, in 2011, but it was his 2017 album Purgatory, produced by Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson, that truly put him on the map. The album received widespread acclaim and earned him the Americana Music Honors & Awards’ Emerging Artist of the Year in 2018. His 2019 release, Country Squire, further cemented his place in country music, with tracks like “All Your’n” earning a Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance in 2020.
In 2020, Childers released Long Violent History, an album that blended traditional Appalachian fiddle music with sharp commentary on social issues, particularly racism and civil unrest. His 2022 triple album, Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven?, showcased his musical diversity, experimenting with different styles while staying true to his roots. His latest album, Rustin’ in the Rain (2023), continues his exploration of country music, introducing new, more progressive themes, such as a queer narrative in the song “In Your Love.”
Throughout his career, Childers has remained committed to authenticity, using his music as a platform to speak on both personal and societal issues, solidifying his position as one of the leading voices in contemporary country and folk music.
