About Meek Mill

Robert Rihmeek Williams, better known as Meek Mill, was born on May 6, 1987, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Growing up in the rough neighborhoods of South and North Philadelphia, Meek was introduced to hip-hop early on, inspired by his uncle, Grandmaster Nell, a DJ who was a key figure in Philadelphia’s hip-hop scene in the late ’80s. Tragically, at the age of five, Meek lost his father during an attempted robbery, a pivotal moment that shaped his tough upbringing. He soon turned to rap battles, adopting the moniker Meek Millz, and went on to form the rap group The Bloodhoundz, which gained some attention with their early mixtapes.

In 2008, Meek Mill signed with T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records but left the label in 2011. That same year, he joined Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group (MMG), where his career truly took off. He became widely known for tracks like “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss.” His debut album, Dreams and Nightmares (2012), hit number two on the Billboard 200 and featured the hit single “Amen” with Drake. His following albums, including Dreams Worth More Than Money (2015) and Championships (2018), were met with both commercial success and critical acclaim.

Beyond his music career, Meek Mill has become a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform. His own legal troubles, including a controversial prison sentence in 2017 for probation violations, brought attention to flaws in the criminal justice system. Released in 2018, Meek co-founded the REFORM Alliance with Jay-Z and other influential figures to work toward reforming the system. Despite his challenges, Meek Mill remains a powerful force in both music and social justice, continuously shaping culture and advocating for change.
