About Lloyd Banks
Lloyd Banks, born Christopher Charles Lloyd on April 30, 1982, in New Carrollton, Maryland, is an acclaimed American rapper known for his razor-sharp lyrics and punchline-heavy flow. Though born in Maryland, he was raised in the gritty neighborhood of South Jamaica, Queens, New York—a place that shaped his voice and vision as an artist. He began writing poetry and rhymes as a teen, drawing inspiration from hip-hop legends like Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick.
In 1999, Banks joined forces with longtime friends 50 Cent and Tony Yayo to form G-Unit, a group that would go on to dominate early 2000s hip-hop. Their 2003 debut album, Beg for Mercy, launched them into the spotlight with a raw, street-focused sound.
Banks stepped out solo in 2004 with his debut album The Hunger for More, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and delivered the massive hit “On Fire.” His second album, Rotten Apple (2006), also performed well commercially. Despite parting ways with Interscope Records in 2009, Banks never lost momentum—releasing The Hunger for More 2 in 2010 and collaborating with major names like Kanye West and Swizz Beatz.
In recent years, he’s continued to evolve, dropping his Halloween Havoc mixtapes and the The Course of the Inevitable album trilogy. Known for his lyrical depth and gritty realism, Lloyd Banks remains a respected figure in hip-hop, balancing legacy with lyrical longevity.
