About PETERSON
PETERSON is the eighth studio album by Canadian rapper and singer Tory Lanez, arrived as a surprise release on March 7, 2025, through One Umbrella Records. Serving as a follow-up to his 2020 album Daystar, the two titles together form his full name, Daystar Peterson.
What sets PETERSON apart is its unique creation process—it was entirely recorded while Lanez was incarcerated, following his 2023 conviction in connection to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez has called it the “first-ever real-time prison album,” emphasizing that it was made while he was actively serving his sentence, making it a deeply personal and raw project.
The album runs approximately 86 minutes and blends R&B and hip-hop, showcasing Lanez’s signature versatility. While the full tracklist hasn’t been widely revealed, the project is expected to reflect his emotions, struggles, and introspections during this challenging period.
Before its release, Lanez teased the album’s development during a social media phone call on February 20, 2025. In the conversation, he shared plans to write and record the project within three weeks, drawing inspiration from fellow Canadian artists Drake, PartyNextDoor, and The Weeknd. Just days before its drop, on March 4, he officially announced the album’s title and cover art.
PETERSON stands as a bold statement of resilience and artistic dedication. Now available on all major streaming platforms, the album gives fans a raw and unfiltered glimpse into Lanez’s life behind bars.
