People Watching is Sam Fender’s highly anticipated third studio album, which dropped on February 21, 2025, via Polydor Records. Co-produced by Fender himself alongside Adam Granduciel of The War on Drugs and Markus Dravs, this album marks a significant evolution in Fender’s sound. The production team, including Fender’s bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson, created a fresh sonic experience, blending rock with deep storytelling elements.

The album explores the lives of ordinary people through Fender’s unique lens, offering colorful, vivid portraits of everyday characters. People Watching draws inspiration from Fender’s own observations and experiences, with the title track, released as the lead single in November 2024, reflecting his personal connection to the subject matter. The song is a tribute to a close friend and mentor, Annie Orwin, and was co-produced in Los Angeles with Granduciel, capturing moments of reflection during Fender’s walks near a care home.

The album cover features a powerful photograph by Tish Murtha, a renowned social documentary photographer known for capturing working-class life in Newcastle. Upon release, People Watching earned widespread critical acclaim, holding a score of 84 on Metacritic. Critics praised the album for its raw honesty and emotional depth, highlighting Fender’s ability to capture the tension between fame and community. To support the album, Fender embarked on the People Watching Tour, delivering electrifying performances across Europe, including sold-out shows at major venues like London’s O2 Arena and St. James’ Park in Newcastle.
