ÉXODO is the fourth studio album by the talented Guadalajara native, Peso Pluma, following his previous project, GENESIS. Continuing the trend of titles referencing the Christian religion and the Bible, ÉXODO specifically draws its name from the second book of the Old Testament, “Exodus.” This title, derived from the Greek word “exodos,” meaning “exit” or “departure,” symbolizes a continuation of the narrative started in GENESIS. Both books, part of the Pentateuch or Torah, form a fundamental portion of the Bible, with ÉXODO picking up where Genesis leaves off, providing a thematic and conceptual bridge between the two albums.
The album and its title were officially announced in February 2024 when Peso Pluma, whose real name is Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, revealed his upcoming “Exodus Tour 2024.” This announcement was confirmed on March 1 with an Instagram teaser showcasing the word “ÉXODO.” The tour dates were set to begin on May 26, leading fans to speculate that the album would be released shortly before the tour commenced. Although initially, the exact release date remained unknown, Peso Pluma later confirmed during an Instagram live session that the album would be released in May 2024, without specifying a precise day. He also mentioned that the album would predominantly feature regional Mexican music but hinted at some surprises for his audience.
During an interview with Rolling Stone on March 11, 2024, Peso Pluma provided further insights into the thematic evolution from GENESIS to ÉXODO. He stated, “In GENESIS, people already saw the good side, the superhero side. But I think this year they will get to know the dark side. People will always have something to say about what I’m doing, creating their own narrative. But the reality is that all these days I’ve been in the studio, working, making the new album, and I’m more focused than ever. I’m more than ready to present my new album ÉXODO.” This statement highlighted his dedication to his craft and his desire to present a more nuanced, perhaps darker, side of his artistry.
On May 8, Peso Pluma shared a post on Instagram promoting the single “LA DURANGO” and announcing a revised release date for the album, now set for June 20, instead of the initially expected May. This change in release date necessitated adjustments to his tour schedule, adding dates to accommodate the delay. On May 24, Peso Pluma and Spotify revealed the official cover and tracklist of the eagerly awaited project. The album is structured into two distinct parts: the first 16 songs are corridos, featuring collaborations with prominent artists in the regional Mexican genre, while the remaining 8 tracks focus on the urban genre, showcasing Peso Pluma’s versatility and ability to blend different musical styles.
Released through his own record label, Double P Records, ÉXODO further solidifies Peso Pluma’s position in the music industry. Born on June 15, 1999, in Zapopan, Jalisco, Peso Pluma began exploring music during his teenage years, quickly developing a passion for singing and songwriting. His debut album, “Ah y Qué?” released in 2020, showcased his versatility and talent, earning him a dedicated fanbase. He followed this with “Efectos Secundarios” in 2021, solidifying his reputation as an innovative artist.
Peso Pluma’s music often features a fusion of traditional Mexican genres with contemporary sounds, creating a fresh and engaging sound. His collaboration with Natanael Cano on the track “AMG” further expanded his reach, bringing his music to a wider audience. In 2022, Peso Pluma released “Disco en Vivo,” a live album that captured the energy and dynamism of his performances, highlighting his ability to connect with audiences through his heartfelt lyrics and charismatic stage presence.
ÉXODO not only reflects Peso Pluma’s personal experiences and cultural background but also addresses universal themes that resonate with a broad audience. His rise to fame has been marked by dedication to his craft and an ability to innovate within the regional Mexican music genre. As he continues to evolve as an artist, Peso Pluma remains a prominent figure in the music industry, known for his passion and creativity.
