About City Cinderella Album

City Cinderella is the debut studio mixtape by JT, a former member of the influential hip-hop duo City Girls. Released in 2024, the 16-track mixtape is a bold and unapologetic declaration of JT’s individuality, showcasing her journey from being part of a celebrated duo to establishing herself as a solo artist. The mixtape extensively references JT’s sexuality, wealth, and self-love as a Black woman, resonating deeply with her audience and reflecting her personal experiences and growth. Paying homage to her roots, City Cinderella incorporates samples from Miami bass artist DJ Uncle Al and features Miami’s iconic disk jockey, DJ Khaled, grounding the project in the vibrant cultural landscape of Dade County.

The anticipation for City Cinderella was palpable, with JT releasing a string of singles leading up to the mixtape. The single “Okay,” dropped in April 2024, followed the non-album single “No Bars” and the lead single “Sideways,” which was released in February 2024. JT’s collaboration with other prominent artists, such as Doechii and Kali Uchis, also heightened the excitement. Her ability to seamlessly integrate these collaborations into her solo work demonstrated her versatility and broad appeal within the hip-hop community.

At the turn of the decade, the City Girls were one of the hottest names in hip-hop, but the duo’s disbandment allowed JT to pursue her own artistic vision. City Cinderella marks a significant milestone in her career, emphasizing her ability to shine independently. While JT has often performed alongside other artists, this mixtape places her firmly in the spotlight, allowing her unique voice and style to take center stage. The features on the project are intentionally sparse, with notable appearances from DJ Khaled and Stunna Girl, allowing JT to dominate the narrative and showcase her formidable talent as a solo artist.

JT started off the year strong with her debut solo single “Sideways” and quickly followed it up with “Okay” in the spring. These releases set the stage for her mixtape, culminating in her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the “Okay” remix featuring Jeezy. Despite the mixtape’s success and the extensive tracklist, JT insists that City Cinderella is not her debut album. She explained to Paper magazine that albums are crafted with a different level of care and time, something she couldn’t afford while creating this project during her tour in the spring. Instead, she describes City Cinderella as a product of her pure instincts, a raw and immediate expression of her artistry under time constraints.

The mixtape kicks off with “Intro (Hope),” setting an introspective and motivational tone. Tracks like “Brisk Talk” and “Servin” display JT’s confident lyricism, while “Oh” (featuring DJ Khaled) and “Lemon Pepper” (featuring Stunna Girl) add dynamic collaborations to the mix. “90’s Baby” and “Uncle Al” offer nostalgic nods to her influences and roots, while tracks like “Swang,” “Sideways,” and “OKAY” emphasize her individuality and prowess. The mixtape concludes powerfully with “Red Flowers,” “Star of the Show,” and the “OKAY” remix featuring Jeezy, leaving listeners eager for more of JT’s solo work.

In City Cinderella, JT not only redefines her identity as an artist but also reaffirms her place in the hip-hop world. The mixtape is a testament to her resilience, creativity, and ability to captivate audiences as a solo act. As she continues to evolve and refine her sound, fans and critics alike are eager to see what the future holds for JT.
