About Ruby
Ruby is the highly anticipated debut solo studio album by South Korean singer and rapper Jennie, released on March 7, 2025, under her independent label Odd Atelier in collaboration with Columbia Records. This marks a significant moment in her career, as it is her first major solo project following her departure from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023. With this album, Jennie aims to redefine herself as an artist, stepping beyond her legacy with BLACKPINK and embracing a sound that is entirely her own.
Spanning 15 tracks, Ruby showcases Jennie’s artistic versatility, effortlessly blending pop, hip-hop, and R&B influences. The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, featuring Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, Dua Lipa, and Kali Uchis. Jennie was deeply involved in the creative process, co-writing and co-producing several tracks alongside El Guincho, Diplo, and Mike Will Made It. Primarily recorded in English, Jennie describes Ruby as a deeply personal project, a reflection of her journey toward self-expression and independence. She sees this album as an introduction to “Jennie Ruby Jane,” a persona shaped by her experiences growing up in New Zealand and navigating global fame.
The album’s lead single, “Mantra”, dropped on October 11, 2024, and quickly climbed the charts, breaking into the top five on both the Billboard Global 200 and South Korea’s Circle Digital Chart. Other singles like “Love Hangover,” “ExtraL,” and “Like Jennie” further solidified her presence as a solo powerhouse. To celebrate the release, Jennie announced a series of exclusive shows titled “Ruby Experience,” offering fans an immersive introduction to her new era. She is also set to take the Coachella stage on April 13 and 20, 2025, marking her first solo performance at the iconic festival.
Critics have praised Ruby for its mix of vulnerability and confidence, with many highlighting Jennie’s ability to navigate different genres while maintaining her signature style. Tracks like “Love Hangover” featuring Dominic Fike and “ExtraL” featuring Doechii stand out for their bold experimentation and raw emotional depth. Jennie’s ability to seamlessly merge introspective storytelling with high-energy production has been widely recognized as a promising start to her solo career.
On the commercial front, Ruby made an impressive impact even before its release, with pre-orders surpassing 450,000 copies, showcasing the immense anticipation surrounding Jennie’s solo debut. This strong demand underscores her global influence and the loyalty of her fanbase.
In essence, Ruby is more than just an album—it’s a statement. It marks a new chapter in Jennie’s career, one where she takes full creative control and steps into the spotlight as an independent artist. With a mix of personal storytelling, star-studded collaborations, and genre-bending sounds, Ruby sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting new era for Jennie Ruby Jane.
