About LOOM

Loom, the sixth studio album by Imagine Dragons, marks a significant chapter in the band’s evolution. Released on June 28, 2024, through Kidinakorner and Interscope Records, the album continues the band’s tradition of exploring new musical territories while maintaining their signature sound. Comprising nine tracks, Loom is the band’s shortest album to date, reflecting a streamlined approach following the expansive two-part studio release Mercury – Acts 1 & 2 from 2022. This latest record represents a period of transition for Imagine Dragons, as it is their first release as a trio, following the indefinite hiatus of drummer Daniel Platzman in March 2023.

The creative journey behind Loom is both introspective and experimental. Lead singer Dan Reynolds shared insights into the album’s conceptual framework in an interview with the Associated Press, describing the cover art—a backdrop that could be interpreted as either a sunrise or sunset, with two figures standing apart—as a metaphor for the album’s thematic dichotomy. This visual representation captures the essence of the album’s exploration of new beginnings versus the end of past phases. The duality of this imagery aligns with the album’s exploration of themes such as sadness, joy, heartache, and renewal, creating a nuanced narrative throughout the record.

The promotional strategy for Loom was both interactive and engaging. The band initiated a creative campaign on their social media platforms in early March 2024, where a countdown featuring a sand clock and a series of four doors generated buzz among fans. Each door revealed mini-games and clues about the album’s content, culminating in a competitive event where fans were divided into three groups named after previous hit songs: “Croyants” (Believers), “Guerriers” (Warriors), and “Rêveurs” (Dreamers). This gamified approach not only heightened anticipation but also involved fans in the release process.

The first single from Loom, “Eyes Closed,” was unveiled on April 3, 2024. The song’s release was followed by the announcement of a collaborative remix featuring Colombian artist J Balvin, which dropped on May 3, 2024. This collaboration added a new dimension to the track and expanded its reach. The band continued their promotional efforts with the release of a second single, “Nice to Meet You,” on May 24, and a music video for “Wake Up,” which premiered on July 2, 2024.

The tracklisting for Loom includes a diverse range of songs that showcase the band’s musical versatility. The album features tracks like “Wake Up,” “Nice to Meet You,” “Eyes Closed,” “Take Me to the Beach,” “In Your Corner,” “Gods Don’t Pray,” “Don’t Forget Me,” “Kid,” and “Fire in These Hills.” Each track contributes to the album’s overarching narrative, blending familiar elements of the band’s sound with fresh, innovative approaches.

The album’s production, handled by the band in collaboration with longtime partners Mattman & Robin, underscores a balance between classic and contemporary influences. The streamlined tracklist and focused production approach highlight Loom as a refined artistic statement, reflecting both the band’s journey of self-discovery and their readiness to embrace new horizons. Loom’s reception was generally positive, with critics noting the band’s ability to maintain their signature sound while exploring new thematic and musical landscapes. The album peaked at number 22 on the US Billboard 200, solidifying its place in the band’s discography as a significant and impactful release.
