About WE DON’T TRUST YOU

We Don’t Trust You marks the first collaborative studio album by renowned American rapper Future and acclaimed record producer Metro Boomin. Released on March 22, 2024, under the joint banners of Freebandz, Epic Records, Boominati Worldwide, and Republic, the album signifies a major milestone in both artists’ careers. This highly anticipated project features an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Kendrick Lamar, and Rick Ross. The production, primarily helmed by Metro Boomin, also showcases contributions from heavyweight producers such as Mike Dean, Oz, Southside, Boi-1da, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Allen Ritter, Dre Moon, Zaytoven, Doughboy, Lil 88, Wheezy, G Koop, and more, ensuring a rich, varied sonic landscape.

Rooted in hip hop and trap, We Don’t Trust You was propelled by three singles: “Type Shit,” “Young Metro,” and “Like That.” The latter, a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, marking Future’s third chart-topping single and Metro Boomin’s first. The album’s reception was overwhelmingly positive, with critics lauding its cohesive production and dynamic performances. Commercially, it was a resounding success, debuting at the top of the US Billboard 200 and boasting the largest opening week of any album in 2024 at the time of its release.

The genesis of We Don’t Trust You can be traced back to January 2023, when Metro Boomin hinted at a collaborative project during an interview with Ebro Darden for Rap Life Radio. He explained his absence from Future’s ninth studio album, I Never Liked You (2022), as a strategic decision to reserve his best work for their joint album. This tantalizing revelation sparked anticipation among fans. Further teasing occurred in March 2023, when Metro Boomin confirmed to Flaunt Magazine that a collaborative album was on the horizon, though it faced delays due to unforeseen circumstances.

In August 2023, Metro took to Twitter to share a setback—three instrumental tracks intended for the album were lost due to a power outage. Undeterred, he continued to stoke anticipation, vowing in January 2024 to abstain from cutting or shaving his hair until the album was completed. The album’s official announcement came on March 8, 2024, with Future and Metro releasing a trailer that featured a soundbite from the late rapper Prodigy. This trailer revealed the album’s title, We Don’t Trust You, and its release date. Notably, it also teased a sequel, We Still Don’t Trust You, set to drop on April 12.

Promotional efforts included the release of three singles, each accompanied by music videos. “Type Shit,” featuring Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, premiered alongside the album on March 22. “Young Metro,” featuring The Weeknd, followed three days later. The third single, “Like That,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, was released the next day and achieved instant success by debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100.

The album’s tracklist features standout tracks such as “We Don’t Trust You,” “Young Metro” (with The Weeknd), “Type Shit” (with Travis Scott and Playboi Carti), “Like That” (with Kendrick Lamar), and “Everyday Hustle” (with Rick Ross). Each song exemplifies the seamless fusion of Future’s gritty, emotive rap with Metro Boomin’s meticulous, hard-hitting production.

Supporting the release, Future and Metro Boomin have embarked on the We Trust You tour, performing across North America in promotion of both We Don’t Trust You and its upcoming sequel. The tour promises to be a high-energy showcase of their collaborative synergy and a celebration of their latest musical achievements.

Overall, We Don’t Trust You stands as a testament to Future and Metro Boomin’s creative partnership, delivering a compelling blend of cutting-edge production and powerful lyrical narratives that resonate deeply with their audience.
