About HARDSTONE PSYCHO

Hardstone Psycho is the fourth studio album by American rapper and singer Don Toliver, released on June 14, 2024, through Cactus Jack and Atlantic Records. This album showcases Toliver’s unique blend of melodic rap and trap influences, further cementing his place in the contemporary music scene. Featuring an impressive roster of guest artists, Hardstone Psycho includes collaborations with Kodak Black, Charlie Wilson, Cash Cobain, Travis Scott, Future, Metro Boomin, and Teezo Touchdown. The deluxe version, released exclusively on Toliver’s website four days later before hitting streaming services on June 25, 2024, adds more star power with appearances from Lil Uzi Vert and Yeat.

The production team behind Hardstone Psycho is a testament to Toliver’s dedication to quality and innovation. The album’s production was spearheaded by Cash Cobain and Metro Boomin, with contributions from notable producers such as Bugz Ronin, Preme, Mikey Freedom Hart, Bnyx, Zaytoven, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Wheezy, Psymun, Buddy Ross, Oz, FKi 1st, and Charlie Handsome, among others. This diverse team brings a range of sonic textures and influences to the project, resulting in a rich and dynamic soundscape.

Supporting Hardstone Psycho were three singles that highlighted the album’s versatility and Toliver’s artistic growth. The lead single, “Bandit,” was released on February 1, 2024, accompanied by an official music video that subtly revealed the album’s title. Toliver used social media to build anticipation, hinting at new music and eventually confirming the album’s summer release. The second single, “Deep in the Water,” followed on March 14, 2024, with its music video also containing hidden references to the album’s title. The final single, “Attitude,” featuring Charlie Wilson and Cash Cobain, was released on May 22, 2024, just ahead of the album’s launch.

Hardstone Psycho received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its cohesive production, Toliver’s vocal performance, and the album’s guest features. The commercial success of the album was marked by its debut at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, earning 76,500 album-equivalent units in its first week. This solid debut underscored Toliver’s ability to consistently deliver music that resonates with a wide audience.

Don Toliver, born Caleb Zackery Toliver on June 12, 1994, in Houston, Texas, has rapidly ascended in the music industry. His early exposure to music was influenced by his father, a rapper affiliated with the Swishahouse movement of the early 2000s. This upbringing in the vibrant Houston rap scene laid the foundation for Toliver’s musical career. He began his journey in 2017 with the collaborative mixtape Playa Familia alongside Yungjosh93. His solo singles “I Gotta” and “Diva,” released later that year, caught the attention of Atlantic Records, leading to his signing in March 2018.

Toliver’s breakthrough came with his major-label debut mixtape, Donny Womack, in August 2018, which attracted the interest of Travis Scott. This collaboration led to Toliver’s feature on Scott’s acclaimed album Astroworld, particularly on the track “Can’t Say.” This pivotal moment further propelled Toliver’s career, resulting in his signing to Scott’s label, Cactus Jack Records.

Toliver’s debut studio album, Heaven or Hell, released in March 2020, solidified his position in the music industry, followed by his sophomore effort, Life of a Don, in October 2021. His third album, Love Sick, continued to receive critical acclaim in 2023. With Hardstone Psycho, Don Toliver has once again demonstrated his ability to produce innovative and engaging music, securing his place as a significant figure in the rap and hip-hop genres.
